TIGER Grant
TIGER Discretionary Grants
Up to $1.5 billion was made available under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act for the Secretary of Transportation to make grants on a competitive basis for capital investments in surface transportation infrastructure projects that will have a sigificant impact on the Nation, a metropolitan area, or a region. Projects eligible for funding include, but are not limited to, highway or bridge projects, public transportation projects, passenger and freight rail, or port infrastructure investments.
This is a highly competitive grant. The Southeast Connector project provides many of the qualities identified primarily economic development and improved transportation for the metropolitan area. The estimated cost of the Southeast Connector from SE 14th to SE 30th Street is $65 million. The grant application will be for $60 million. TIGER Grant applications were due by September 15, 2009. The U.S. DOT will announce the projects selected to receive TIGER Grant funds no later than February 17, 2010.
