Project Overview

The Southeast (SE) Connector Project consists of two phases (also referred to as Phase I and II). Each phase has different components that will proceed as funding becomes available. The components of Phase I and II include:

SE Connector Phase I    SW 2nd to SE 15th Streets map »

  • Re-evaluation of existing Environmental Impact Statement (EIS)
  • Select bridge type across the Des Moines River
  • Design from SW 2nd to SE 6th
  • Purchase property starting at SW 2nd going to SE 15th
  • Construct SW 2nd to SE 6th
  • Design SE 6th to SE 15th
  • Construct SE 6th to SE 15th

The SE Connector Phase I is further along the project development process than Phase II.  Phase I improvements were originally identified, studied and received environmental clearance during the MLK Parkway EIS process that occurred during the 1980s.  As such, the improvements are ready for design and construction.

Phase II of the SE Connector has been formally approved with the Record of Decision. The yellow alignment was selected from SE 15th to Highway 65. The segment from SE 15th to SE 30th is under final design and will be let through the Iowa DOT in the Spring of 2013.
